WHAT TO EXPECT
If you have decided to surrender your pet, you will be required to sign a release form transferring
ownership of your pet. Surrender fee is required as your pet will received an immediate medical
examination and subsequent health needs will be addressed. Once you have signed the release
statement, you may not reclaim your pet, so please be sure that you have made the right decision for
you and your pet. You are welcome to check on the pet's status.
WHEN YOU CAN NO LONGER KEEP YOUR PET
Marion County Humane Society's shelter is a limited-admission shelter. We assist all Marion County
strays as a first priority, and we also accept owner surrenders. Since our shelter has limited capacity
and finances, all inquiries for intake will be given a full assessment for level of care, need, and our
available space before surrender is approved.
We do NOT euthanize for space. As one animal is adopted and cage or kennel space becomes
available, another animal will be approved to come in.
OTHER SURRENDER OPTIONS:
Pet Finder: (NO KILL) http://www.petfinder.com/index.html
Pet Helpers: (NO KILL) 304-672-7387

PET MEDICAL RECORDS
Please bring any medical records you have for your pet. If you don't have records, give us the name of
the animal hospital you use so we can request records to give to the new owner.
PET PERSONALITY PROFILE
We will ask you to fill out a "personality profile" about your pet. The information about its health,
behavior, habits, likes, and dislikes is really helpful to people considering your pet for adoption and
helps us determine the type of home best suited for your pet.
